JUMP Gymnastics S.L.E.D. Program: Sports Leadership Program

 Who Should Apply to the SLED Program?

  • Passionate high school students that are sure about their love for children. People who think children bring joy and light, and are possibly thinking of a career in working with kids.
  • Teens that are interested in development and improvement, especially when it comes to growth personally, professionally, and physically.
  • Those who are open-minded, compassionate and have a spirit of inclusion- they can make anyone feel welcome and valued.
  • And students who are possibly thinking of a career in sport or working with kids.
  • Students do not need prior sport experience to apply!

What is the Program? Sport Leadership, Education, and Development Program

The SLED Program is a minimum 35 hour volunteer program that educates and prepares youth for employment and leadership and broken down into a number of different workshops:

  • Two 6 hour workshops (hosted on Saturdays)
  • One 5 hour online learning module to be done at your own pace
  • 20 hours of practical "on-the-floor" work experience

To apply, fill out the "SLED & Volunteer Application Form" before the semester deadline. Successful applicants will be contacted.

*Make sure you are able to attend both in-person training sessions (Saturdays) that are listed in the timeline below. You must be in Grade 10, 11, or 12 and be at least 15 years old to apply.

Spring Break – Camp Leader

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to provide leadership for children
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
  • High Five Certification

Preference will be given to candidates with previous camp experience and working in a leadership role with children in a variety of settings. All candidates are required to submit a Police Information Check as a requirement of the position. All candidates must be prepared to work at any of our facilities. Compensation: $20.72 per hour plus 12% in lieu of benefits.

Spring Break – Head Camp Leader

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and provide leadership for children and youth activities
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor other camp leaders and volunteers
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
  • High Five Certification
  • Previous volunteer experience working with children/youth considered an asset

Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience working in a role with children in a variety of settings such as camps, arts and crafts, dance, and sports. Applicants may also be considered for Playground Leader 1 position. All candidates are required to submit a Police Information Check as a requirement of the position. All candidates must be prepared to work at any of our facilities. Compensation: $23.79 per hour plus 12% in lieu of benefits.

Big Info is the largest program expo and information session at BCIT. It’s your chance to find out about all our programs – from business and media, computing and IT, engineering, health sciences, trades and apprenticeships, and applied and natural sciences. It’s free. It’s lively. It’s a night of possibilities. 

 Join us in person, February 15 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at our Burnaby Campus to get your questions answered by faculty and current students from over 300 programs—all in one place.  There will be free parking in all lots at the Burnaby Campus from 3:00 pm onwards. We recommend parking in lots D,E,F,5,7, or V6 for convenient access to the event.
