The LIT program plays a huge role in the Snow School Department every year and were looking for more enthusiastic and determined individuals for this winter season. It’s a great opportunity for high school students aged 14-18 who are experienced skiers/snowboarders that are also interested in becoming instructors or gaining work experience in a fast-paced, outdoor recreation-based setting.
The LIT program is made up of volunteer skiers/snowboarders who are paired with ski/snowboard instructors who are teaching a lesson. The volunteers help the instructors conduct their lessons by organizing the group, communicating with students, assisting guests and parents with inquiries, providing a safe and fun experience for all students, and more. The volunteers must have an advanced ski/snowboard ability, be confident with becoming a role model and mentoring young children, have good communication and organizational skills, and possess a mature, energetic attitude.
LIT volunteers primarily work with instructors who are teaching Multi-day Child Camps. With camps, instructors meet their students at the base of the mountain and they take the skyride up together. Instructors either teach a full-day camp, going from roughly 8:00am-4:00pm, or two half-day camps, one morning, one afternoon.
Volunteers must commit to attending 2 days of training and working a minimum of one camp during the Winter Break (Dec 21st to Jan 5th), which is either 4 or 5 days long, and one weekend camp after the Winter Break that happen every Saturday or Sunday for four weekends in a row. This fulfills our 80-hour requirement. We do however encourage all LITs to continue volunteering to gain additional experience in the workforce and with instructing with the hopes of attending the CSIA or CASI level 1 instructor courses at the end of the season.
