Position Overview
Maplewood Farm has an exciting summer opportunity and is currently looking for a Temporary Full-Time Summer Student Farm Attendant from June 13, 2022 to August 20, 2022 to perform routine maintenance, custodial and public contact work of some variety. The incumbent feeds, handles and cares for domestic farm animals and birds and maintains enclosures, farm buildings, facilities and grounds. In addition, the incumbent provides information to the public about the farm and may be required to assist with cashiering and other related tasks.
The successful applicant must possess:
- Considerable knowledge of methods, practices and procedures for the care and feeding of the farm’s animals and birds;
- Sound knowledge of the rules governing public conduct on the farm;
- Working knowledge of the methods, materials and tools used in maintaining grounds and buildings;
- Ability to handle animals and birds safely and to carry out a variety of tasks and procedures related to their care;
- Ability to perform a variety of unskilled grounds, maintenance and repair tasks;
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public;
- Ability to understand and carry out work according to oral instructions and to work with minimal supervision;
- Ability to provide training and direction to others;
- Ability to facilitate public engagement events and children’s programs;
- Ability to complete non-complex forms and reports;
- Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment used in the work.

Qualifications:
§ Be between the age of 15 and 30 years of age and be legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid SIN, be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act);
§ Not hold another full-time (30 or more hours) summer job;
§ Completion of Grade 10, plus some experience in working with animals, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Some cashiering and basic keyboarding experience would be an asset.

Compensation
The pay for this unionized position is $30.21 per hour (2021 rates) based on a 40 hour week, and hours of work will be Tuesday to Saturday, 8:30am – 5:00pm.
