You can be a part of one of Vancouver's most loved attractions by volunteering to help at Bright Nights in Stanley Park 2023! The train and plaza will be sparkling with three million lights offering guests an illuminated experience like no other.

As a volunteer you will get to help the train staff check and scan tickets, assist with Santa photos in Santa's workshop and help to create a magical experience for our guests. Please read all of the event information and if you would like to join us this year, than fill out your application.

Volunteer shifts will be 4:30pm to 9:30 pm nightly from November 30, 2023 - January 1, 2024 (Closed Dec. 25 -Christmas Day). Please understand that when you are signing up for a volunteer ticket, you are signing up for the duration of the event. For example: If you sign up for Thursday nights, than you are signing up for all of the event Thursday nights (5 Nights Nov. 30, Dec. 7, Dec. 14, Dec. 21, Dec. 28)

*Mandatory orientation meeting Nov. 28th OR Nov. 29th at 4:30pm.

Please make sure you dress warmly as this is an outdoor event, it is best to have extra layers! Hope to see you at Bright Nights!

Paid Position: Bur-Han is Hiring for Entry-Level Lawn & Garden Crew Positions

 We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated high school students to join our Entry-Level Lawn and Garden Crew. This is an excellent opportunity for students who are interested in learning and gaining hands-on experience in the field of lawn and garden maintenance. No prior experience is required, but a strong desire to work outdoors and learn new skills is a must. 

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Lawn and Garden Crew and follow instructions.
  • Assist the crew leader with tasks such as planting, weeding, and cultivating garden beds.
  • Care flowers, shrubs, and trees
  • Mowing lawns 
  • Trim and edging lawns for a polished appearance.
  • Apply lawn applications.
  • Safely and efficiently operate equipment 
  • Maintain a positive and collaborative work environment.

Requirements:

  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to lift and carry equipment and materials.
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines and company policies.

BCIT: Bridge Watch Certificate Programs - FULLY FUNDED - School of Transportation

 

3-5 High School available seats for barriered youth in the 
Bridge Watch Rating program (BWR) 
March 11/24 intake.  

Program #1 - The regular tuition paid Bridge Watch Rating Associate Certificate (BWR) program is 12-weeks.  The program is offered in March and includes the following:

  1. Bridge Watch Rating (BWR)
  2. Restricted Operator’s Certificate Maritime Commercial (ROC-MC)
  3. Marine Basic First Aid (MBFA)

Students completing the BWR program must also complete the following two additional courses which are mandatory to meet the Transport Canada’s requirement:

  1. STCW Basic Safety Training (BST) – 8 day course 
  2. STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft (PSC) – 6 Day course 

Program #2 - The Enhanced Bridge Watch Rating (BWR-E) program funded under, Transport Canada’s Oceans Protection Plan for Indigenous People and Women includes all of the courses listed above plus SVOP.  The BWR-E has 3 intakes each year (Jan/Feb, June and July)

  1. Bridge Watch Rating (BWR)
  2. Restricted Operator’s Certificate Maritime Commercial (ROC-MC)
  3. Marine Basic First Aid (MBFA)
  4. STCW Basic Safety Training (BST)
  5. STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft (PSC)
  6. Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP)

Funding for Students accepted into the funded BWR-E program includes their tuition ($6500), cost of Transport Canada Medical Exam* (approx. $2000, and $150 towards CSA approved Safety Boots.   Local students will also receive $15 for lunch for each in-person training day.  Eligible out of town students will be provided hotel accommodations, support with transportation costs, and a $60 per diem for their meals and incidentals while attending the in-person training.

* The Transport Medical Exam is part of the entrance requirements:

Program #3: Bridge Watch Rating, Associate Certificate, Full-time (2933ACERT) - BCIT

**Typically, the Marine Campus would schedule a BST and PSC course directly after the BWR. These two course are offered thru flexible learning and have to be scheduled separately. 

The Bridge Watchman program is based on modular courses and provides training certificates in BCIT Recognition of Training in Workplace Hazardous Materials

Capilano University Open House: November 25th, 2023 11 am - 2 pm

 

Your students will be able to participate in activities with program areas and get information on how to make their applications stand out. This event is of utmost importance for all prospective CapU students. 

Below are just a few examples of activities that will be offered:

  • Tours of the BOSA Building and an alumni panel (Motion Picture Arts, Animation, Visual Effects, etc)
  • Portfolio Reviews (Design in Visual Communication, Animation, etc)
  • Exploring the Kinesiology labs and equipment
  • Exploring the STEM Labs with interactive demos and displays, including robots, 3D printing, and biological specimens.
  • And many more activities with our 100+ programs!

Students can also talk directly with Faculty, Admissions Facilitators, Financial Aid Advisors, Residence Advisors, and other support staff.

North Vancouver Wolf Pack Hockey Team: Volunteers Needed

We are currently looking for volunteers to help with game events and activities and thought it might be an ideal opportunity for your students to earn their volunteer hours.  

The schedule varies but almost all home games are a Saturday night starting at 7pm and we ask volunteers to arrive 15-30 mins early to help set up (depending on the role). We have occasional games on Sunday afternoons as well.  The games are played at Harry Jerome Arena and generally run for about 2.5 hours.  The season typically runs from September to the end of April but the game schedule is only available to the end of December. 

There are several volunteer jobs suitable for students at every home game.  These include:

      1.     Time Keeper (running the clock)
2.     Score Keeper
3.     Live Score (entering goals and penalties to the PJHL website)
**The above roles require experience or specific training. 
4.     PA Announcer (someone comfortable with public speaking to announce goals and penalties etc)
5.     Front Gate (collect payment, stamp hands)
6.     50/50 Ticket Sales
7.     Puck Toss Sales
8.     Merchandise Sales
9.     Concession
10.   Mini Game supervision when we have players from the Minor hockey league play between periods

Perks: 

·         Volunteers do not pay the admission fee and are welcome to watch game when the are done 
·         You can keep an eye on the game doing any of the above positions.
·         These volunteer hours contribute to high school volunteer hour requirements.

North Vancouver Public Library: Volunteers Opportunity

needs volunteers!.

Please consider helping out for one or multiple events:

1) Book Donation Event: Tuesday, October 17, 4 pm - 7 pm
 at the community room, Lynn Valley Library.
Tasks include setting up the tables, assisting those who require help, and sorting through the material.  Pizza will be provided.

2)Our October Book SaleOctober 20-22, 2023
The 2 hour shifts include restocking the books, assisting with general tidy-up, working the cash desk and pitching in with the take down/cleanup on Sunday. 

3) Event Set-Up: October 18th & 19th, 2023
There are tables to be setup, books to be unloaded and sorted into the berry boxes.  Some heavy lifting is required.

 Each volunteer is entitled to 10 free items.
