Our Programs: 

  • Boilermaker: Boilermakers assemble and repair boilers, vessels, tanks, heat exchangers and other heavy metal structures.
  • Ironworker: An ironworker welds, burns, rivets, drills, fits and fabricates structural shapes and plates in the erection of structural steel for buildings and bridges. Ironworkers often work at heights.
  • Metal Fabricator: Fabricators build products using steel, aluminum, stainless steel and various other alloys.

Paid Position: Mount Seymour Summer Program Instructor

 




SUMMER PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR

Position Summary:

Mt Seymour Resort is seeking strong environmental role models to be Summer Program Instructors for our wilderness-based summer day camps. Mt Seymour’s Eco-Adventure Camp provides wilderness-based day camp programs for children aged 5-12. Our experiential camps engage kids in nature education, wilderness survival skills, and personal growth.

Responsibilities & Duties:

Program development, program delivery, direct leadership and care of children and youth, and general administrative tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES (REQUIRED):

• Ability to commit to 9 full weeks of programming Monday-Friday, July 4th – September 2nd
• Experience working with children aged 5-12
• Exemplifies such qualities as: social and environmental responsibility, safety awareness, flexibility, sense of humor, and a passion for continuous learning and mentorship
• Demonstrated group leadership skills in an outdoor (preferably wilderness) setting
• Knowledge of wilderness skills, safety, and etiquette
• Amazing team player and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Capable of mentoring and assisting volunteer leaders
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• A love of nature and of working with children and combining the two!
• Capable of hiking over rough mountainous terrain for extended periods while carrying group and programing supplies
• Ability to handle potential stressful situations calmly and effectively

OTHER:

• Must be available for entire employment duration from June 20th to September 2nd
• Part-time hours from June 20th to start of camp. Full time (40 hours) for duration of camps
• Must be willing to complete a criminal record check
• Must be willing to occasionally supervise children traveling to and from camp on our busses
• Must be willing to work on a mountain top in challenging weather and environmental conditions
• Starting hourly wage range is $17.50 - $19

QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES (DESIRED):

• Degree or diploma in outdoor recreation or adventure tourism or in progress ·Degree in biology, environmental studies, education, or related area of study, or equivalent or in progress
• Formal camp experience
• Knowledge of local First Nations history and culture
• Training or experience working with children with special needs
• Reliable transportation
• Class 5 driver’s license (Class 4 would be an asset)
• Current first aid certificate
• Familiarity with Mt Seymour summer hiking trails
• Knowledge of Mt Seymour flora and fauna
• Primitive survival skills and bushcraft knowledge an asset
Camp Instructors will work collaboratively to do the following:
Develop and refine age-appropriate summer program content
Deliver daily programming
Be responsible for the care, safety of, and injury prevention of campers
Develop props and supporting material/equipment
Maintain a positive camp environment

SFU - Science Rendezvous and International Astronomy Day

 



Science Rendezvous and International Astronomy Day

Friday May 6 & Saturday May 7, 2022 (see event listing for breakdown)

Attend Science Rendezvous and celebrate International Astronomy Day with SFU Science for an exciting and fun online science experience! Our day’s line-up includes:

1 )student spaceflight experiments that are going up to ISS

2) astronomy presentations

3) a magic chemistry show

4) a special Meet an SFU Scientist talk with an astrostatistician and  live streamed, front-row, remote access to our on-campus telescope

We will also offer in-person tours of the Trottier Observatory on our Burnaby campus (weather-permitting).
