DNV Parks: SPRING 2018 VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Saturday, February 17th: Native Shrub/Tree Planting at Lower Mackay Creek Park
11 30 AM – 2 30PM – Meet at the corner of 1st St and Lloyd Ave


Come join forces with the DNV, Echo Ecological, and North Shore Wetland Partners as we carry out restoration work in this wetland ecosystem, an important habitat for a large variety of bird life.

Saturday, March 3rd: Harbourview Habitat Enhancement
10 AM – 1 PM
– Meet in the parking lot at Harbourview Park


In partnership with BCIT’s Ecological Restoration students, come help tackle the restoration of Lynn Creek’s estuary. Learn about estuary ecology, the importance of estuaries to native fish and wildlife populations, and the work that the Rivers Institute and BCIT has done to enhance habitat in this location.

Saturday, March 10th
: Maplewood Creek Park Invasive Removal and Shrub/Tree Planting
10 AM – 1 PM
– Meet outside park at white gate on frontage road alongside Mt Seymour Parkway and Riverside Dr


Join us as we continue with our efforts of restoring important fish and wildlife habitat in Maplewood Creek Park! We will be removing invasive blackberry as well as planting trees and shrubs. Come learn more about this park and its valuable ecosystem within the Seymour valley.

Saturday, March 17th: Windridge Park Weed Pull
10 AM – 1 PM – Meet at the pathway leading from Browning Pl to be-hind the townhouse complex


This will be our first time tackling this site with a group of volunteers – help us aid a passionate resident in her goal of keeping the perimeter of Windridge Park invasive-free!

Saturday, March 24th: Norwood Queens Blackberry Bash 
10 AM – 1 PM – Meet on Mahon Ave across from Evergreen Pl at the entrance to the walkway

Time for Round 2 of the blackberry battle in the Evergreen Pl walkway! Help us reclaim the cleared out space by planting ferns, shrubs, and redistributing logs.

Saturday, April 14th
: Friends of Hunter Park Invasive Plant Removal
10 AM – 1 PM – Meet inside Hunter Park at Tennyson Cres entrance


This bi-annual event has been a success for many years running. Volunteers can expect to pull invasive plants and plant native species while getting to know their neighbours.

Saturday, April 28th
: Bowser Trail Restoration Team
10 AM – 1 PM – Meet at trail entrance off MacGowan Ave


Come out and join the effort of restoring Bowser Trail. This will be the fourth time this group of volunteers have gathered to tackle the invasive species growing along this trail – this event will include planting maintenance of previously restored areas as well as pushing into new areas to remove invasives and plant native species.
