April 19th - Grades 10-12 - 9:00-12:00

Two sessions:

9:00-10:30 – Windsor, Seycove, Argyle – bus transportation will be available for Seycove and Windsor

10:45-12:00 – Carson, Mountainside, Sutherland and Handsworth - bus transportation available for Mountainside and Handsworth)

Note bus maximum capacity is 50 (25 from each school)

The format

Will take the flavor of "speed dating" - there will be 10-15 students at a table for 15-20 minutes before they move on to the next set of speakers.

The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to: 

  • Prepares food for serving to residents;
  • Ensures resident satisfaction with meal service;
  • Responds to resident or family member concerns and ensures appropriate action is taken within decision-making authority and/or brings to the attention of the Food Services Manager/Food and Beverage Manager;
  • Performs the set-up, serving and tear down services at booked catering events;
  • Effectively communicates and interacts with residents, family members, visitors and volunteers in a courteous and professional manner.  Projects an appropriate image and focuses on customer service excellence.

The ideal candidates will possess:

  • Completion or currently enrolled in secondary school education or equivalent;
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate is preferred; not mandatory
  • Smart Serve Certificate is preferred; not mandatory 
  • First Aid Certificate is preferred; not mandatory
  • Ability or read, write and follow written and verbal instructions in English;
  • Demonstrated empathy and understanding of the needs of seniors;
  • Effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills;
  • Ability to organize work and work under strict time constraints.
  • *TRAINING IS PROVIDED for student candidates

Candidates must be available to work days, evenings and weekends.

Rack Stop Stores Ltd. is looking for a competent and hard working individual to work as a sales associate in their North Vancouver store.  The successful candidate will need to be an outward focused people person, with a willingness to go above and beyond to provide exceptional customer service.  Some mechanical aptitude is also a plus, and sales or retail experience is preferred, although not necessary.

Job Description

Responsibilities will include:

·         Selling merchandise to customers, providing excellent customer service.

·         Installing and maintaining customers’ racks and other purchases.

·         Receiving deliveries and processing inventory.

·         Ordering merchandise from distributors.

·         Writing out work orders and adding them to a work schedule.

·         Report to the sales supervisor on a regular basis.

Skills and Experience

·         The ideal candidate will have some mechanical aptitude.

·         Ability to work standing for extended periods and perform some heavy lifting tasks.

·         Retail or sales experience preferred, but not required.

We are delighted to inform you that our applications to volunteer and mentor in our camps have opened up! Please read below for more information about these opportunities.

 


Mentor with Geering Up

Geering Up strives to provide all youth the opportunity to investigate STEM in a fun, education, and safe environment. In order to provide this opportunity, we need the help of mentors. Mentors inspire our youth to believe that they themselves can be tomorrow's leaders in STEM. We are looking for generous STEM professionals and experts to help enable the incoming generation of changemakers with futureproof skills. If you are passionate and involved in a STEM field we would love to have you come in and work with our campers either online or in-person at one of our six locations!



Program Description:

  • This summer we will have mentorship opportunities in our in-person and online summer camps. 
  • We host mentor events in our camps geared towards kids grades 2-12.
  • In our summer camps, mentors are invited to join us for an event once, or multiple times throughout the summer. Whatever works best for them.
  • Being a mentor can look like many things, depending on your interests and expertise. You can give a short presentation on the work you do and how you got into your field, a lab tour, etc.


 


STEM Leadership Program

The UBC Geering Up STEM Leadership Program is a year-long initiative focused on the professional development and training of high school students for the purposes of establishing strong values indicative of a STEM Ambassador. The summer component of the program will focus on training and professional development in addition to volunteer work with Geering Up. This time will provide the Leaders-in-Training with the tools they need to be successful STEM Leaders in the future. 

Leaders-in-training are volunteers who support our summer camps for kids. They will work closely with our instructor team to deliver and share STEM to youth in a hands-on and dynamic learning environment. This program is only open to high school students going into grade 10, 11, or 12 in September 2022. Other Upcoming Volunteering Opportunities

This summer we also invite high school students and undergraduate university students to join us as Junior Instructors in our summer camps! Junior Instructors are volunteers who support our summer camps by assisting our instructor team with running week-long camps. This volunteer program will run alongside the STEM Leadership Program.
