Program Overview:
Students will shadow a constituency assistant in the office,
helping with tasks as needed. Students will have an opportunity to learn the
jurisdiction of the provincial government, the role of a constituency office
and the relations between the provincial government and other governing bodies.
If students have a particular interest in one area of government, attempts will
be made to ensure that area is more fully explored. As per BCGEU guidelines,
work experience student will not be able to independently do the work of a
constituency assistant, but may do research projects if they are qualified,
willing, and able.
Program
Details:
This program will be done at the constituency office of MLA
Susie Chant located at 217-1233 Lynn Valley Road, North Vancouver, BC V7J0A1
(Lynn Valley Centre, above the Vancity Bank). This is a transit accessible
location with regular bus service, and is accessible to people with mobility
issues. In light of covid-19, the office has an enhanced safety plan, but
remote options are available and detail will be provided below.

This program is available February 7th, 2022 to
May 27th, 2022 at the following times:
Remote
work:
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, remote work experience options
are available. Students will sign in at an agreed upon time with their
Constituency Assistant and have a chat via video call (Microsoft Teams is our
preferred platform). Student will be assigned a task, a research project or
something to read and a constituency assistant will always be on the video call
to answer any questions or help with anything.
