Applications now open for Ocean Bridge 2022
Calling all youth aged 18-to-30! Ocean Wise has launched its Canada-wide search for the next wave of 170 youth and young professionals to join the Ocean Bridge leadership and ocean service program. Applications are now open at bridge.ocean.org until March 11, 2022.
This year, you get to decide what program suits you best, whether that’s Ocean Bridge Classic or Direct Action.
Ocean Bridge Classic is a 6-month part-time program (May – October 2022) bringing together Canadian youth and permanent residents from coast-to-coast-to-coast. Participants connect virtually to form a national team engaged in co-creating and delivering ocean and waterway service projects in their home communities. Youth experience ocean literacy distance learning, individualized coaching from Ocean Wise mentors, and funding to deliver local service projects of their own design.
Book-ended by two expenses-paid immersive regional Learning Journeys, ambassadors have the opportunity to learn and explore in one of the following awe-inspiring regions of Canada: Pacific Coast, Great Lakes, St. Lawrence River, and Atlantic Coast.
Ocean Bridge Direct Action is a full-time 3-month immersive placement program, taking place between May – October 2022. Placements may be virtual, field, or lab-based in rural or urban coastal, marine, and watershed environments, and youth must complete 360 hours of service work. Direct Action provides 30 Canadians and permanent residents aged 18-30 the opportunity to be immersed in impactful marine and aquatic conservation projects while mentored and coached by top research professionals. Direct Action funds participant costs associated with travel, living expenses, training, and materials/gear for the duration of their 3-month placement.
The deadline for applications is March 11, 2022, and the program begins in May. Though the ocean may seem far away for many in our large country, we’re all connected to the ocean, whether that’s though food, water, or clean energy.
No prior experience is required and there are no financial costs for the youth. Further supports to facilitate participation and accessibility in the program can be made available.
Ocean Bridge is made possible by the Government of Canada’s Canada Service Corps. Since Ocean Bridge started in 2018, more than 450 youth have contributed 138,394 hours of ocean-related community service and engagement in communities across Canada.
