The ideal candidate for the Contracts Assistant position should be interested in business administration, project management, contract management or supply chain fields. Through this placement, the student will develop an understanding of working in a professional environment, gain exposure to Teck’s Quebrada Blanca Phase 2 project in Chile from the contract management perspective, what contract management entails and how fits in within a project in the construction/execution stage. 

Reporting to the Contracts Specialist, the Contracts assistant is responsible for providing support to the daily contract management activities.


Responsibilities:
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Support with correspondence and document preparation from the requisition to the closeout stages.
  • Support the review of contractor’s payment statements (pre-bill) by verifying claimed costs, hours worked and deliverables.
  • Support with old contract closeout program by verifying of contractor contract information via internet research. Closeout documentation preparation may be required.

Qualifications:
  • Organized, quick learner and punctual
  • Attention to detail and can work independently
  • Interested in learning about the various aspects of the mining industry and the environmental and/or safety fields.
  • Preference will be given to those students considering course work in business administration, project management, contract management or supply chain fields.
  • Ability to use Internet Explorer. Exposure to Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint would be an asset.
  • Knowledge or interest in Spanish language would be an asset since the project is located in Chile. Daily correspondence with the project team and contractors are in both English and Spanish as required.
