In 2015, UNESCO and UN Women established an annual day to honour the important role women and girls play in science and technology. Together they are making a global call to “smash stereotypes, defy gender biases and defeat discrimination that hold women and girls back in STEM fields.”
At BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute, we are proud to support our inspiring female leaders who are making groundbreaking discoveries and innovations in research. At this unique evening event, we will be showcasing the important contributions of six of these women.
Curriculum
Thursday, February 11, 2021 | 7:00–9:00 pm
- 7:00–8:00 pm: Celebrating Success — Hear from six women who are paving the way for research in health sciences.
- 8:00–9:00 pm: Unlimited Potential Panel — Learn more about our presenters including what inspired them to pursue a career in science and what stereotypes or other gender-based barriers they faced. This will be an open conversation so be prepared to ask questions!
More details are coming soon! We’re working hard to put together a curriculum that includes Canada’s leading investigators, healthcare professionals and up-and-coming new researchers.
Interested in Participating?
Women in Science will be held on a virtual learning platform.
Participation is free, but participants will require access to a
computer, tablet or smartphone and a stable internet connection.
Registration is open to high school students, university students and
members of the general public. The curriculum and discussion will be
targeted for a grade 10–12 education level.
Registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Space is limited to 200 participants.
